Years has passed since I wrote this blog post. I’m turning 59 on the 31st of March.
Fritz inspired me to take up gymnastics in my late 40s. I’ve become fitter every year for more than 10 years in a row. I now enjoy 45 minute high intensity workouts with guys in their 30s. I love it. I’m excited to keep getting fitter every year at least until 2030.
My birthday is on Thursday. I’ll be just a sprightly 46.
That number was starting to feel big but thanks to the video below I say, “who gives a hoot”. I feel young.
Isn’t that guy amazing?
Why be all negative and grouchy when it comes to aging with guys like Fritz around to inspire us. Here’s a guy who has the strength and flexibility of a 29-year-old… super athlete… and he’s 69.
He took up rock climbing, rowing and cross-country skiing after his 60th birthday.
I’m 46 on Thursday but after seeing that video, who cares. I feel young. I’ve got great kids, work I love and good health, even if I can’t stand on my head.
Fritz inspires me, but many of my students have inspired me even more. They’re learning Spanish in their 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and even 90s.
I don’t know if I could have believed it myself if I hadn’t seen the results they are achieving.
They are taking adventures, traveling the world and having fun. They are learning new skills and jumping headfirst into their new language.
They’re relocating and embracing the local culture. Some even have new families that don’t speak English.
They’re enjoying new skills and hobbies, tossing aside self-limiting beliefs and cultural stereotypes. They’re getting on with living as they want to live.
You can have a youthful spirit no matter what your chronological age. Real age isn’t about a number; it’s about experiencing life and learning new things.
Benjamin Franklin said, “some people die at 25 but they are not buried until they are 75”.
No matter your age, you can go where others fear to go. You can embrace life with vitality and passion.
Quit listening to others who are quick to tell you what you can’t do.
Just like the 69-year-old guy on the video above you choose how high you want to set your bar.
Why have so many people in their 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and even 90s, come to me?
They want to speak Spanish with real people. They don’t want to waste their time in a classroom. They want to get down to business and speak the language and experience all that life has to offer.
I don’t care about exams, evaluations or accreditations. I only focus on helping you speak Spanish the easiest and fastest way possible… no matter your age.
Are you ready to take the challenge?
Throw off any limitations others have set on you. Here’s 3 levels to take your Spanish as far as you want to go.
Breakthrough to Getting By in Spanish
He’s incredible and l am inspired.
Happy birthday Marcus@

Happy birthday Marcus@
Muy impresionante. (very impressive). I just had a look online. She’s amazing and inspiring.
Have you heard about the 86 year old trapeze artist? She took it up when she was 74. She’s in the Guinness Book of Records
Feliz cumpleaños! Gracias por todo. Have a wonderful Thursday!
Happy Birthday, Marcus and may it be the best you have had so far!
Alex
I’ve been following you for the last four years and I appreciate your style, your devotion to your project. I wish you the very best.
Gracias Markus,
Louise
Feliz Cumpleanos Marcus!
I am also 69. Good for him however I would be at the chiropractor if I tried some of what he can do.
I have taken 2 modules of Pimsleur so I had some basis of Spanish. I have been taking your courses over the last year and have found that my knowledge and use of Spanish has increase greatly.
We have been here in Playa del Carmen for the last 6 weeks. 10 more days before we return to Canada.
In the first 5 weeks we were in a 9 units condo hotel where some of the staff didn’t speak any English at all and the couple that did spoke less English than my Spanish which was great because it allowed me to practice my Spanish in a real life situation.
One day I met a Very drunk Colombian woman in a pub. She was very happy when I wished her Feliz Cumpleanos in her language.
On a side note, anyone considering visiting Playa del Carmen please ignore all the bad press. It is Very Safe here!!
Gracious Marcus!!
HI MARCUS
happy birthday. Boy, you are young, I’m jealous 🙂
I completed your Advanced Intensive course series. I wish there was more.
My Spanish is really very good, thanks to your course. I get compliments all the time when I’m in Mexico. I can honestly say that I’m trilingual (English, French, Spanish). I started your course 4 years ago when I was 56. It was one of the best things I have ever done.
I would like to see more Advanced Concepts Intensive lessons. Here are some ideas:
More on the future tense and past tense.
More practice on switching between tenses and switching between first, second and third persons.
More practice with the awkward “se gusta” reflexive verbs with a lot of different variables.
When you have more courses beyond B2M18408, please let me know.
Feliz cumpleanos Dear Marcus but as it is our new year in iran i could not see your page and thay say that the time is finished
Dont worry be happy
happy birthday Marcus
Happy Birthday Marcus! & thanks to your lessons I can now enjoy easier communications in Mexico.
I have even been told I speak “espanol proximo” which I take as a compliment!
Have a good one!
Feliz Cumpleanos! ? Thanks for putting together such a great course – really enjoying it! ??
Happy birthday Marcus. I’m currently going through Spanish Level 1, Synergy Spanish and Level 2 for the second time. The second time through is beginning to sink in and become more comfortable. When I finish Level 2 I think I will enroll in the Bolla course and see where it goes from there. I wish the Level 2 was video to help clarify some of the word pronunciations. Also, the individual work sheet lessons are a great asset to the videos. Keep up the good work.
Your course has inspired me to practice my Spanish with local people in Spain. When they don´t understand me they correct me and we have a laugh together but day by day it is getting better. Yes I am inspired by the 69 year old chap! I will keep that video in my mind. Thank you for everything. As the Spanish say to me poca a poco because I don´t absorb things very fast. Each day I go out and mingle and it is surprising how many of them give you a huge smile when you try to speak their language, Thank you
Juliana, you are sure to succeed because you have a fabulous attitude.
Gracias Good to be reminded of this.
Absolutely amazing. I’m working on it
Hola Marcus

Many, many thanks.
And Happy Birthday – you are an inspiration!

Hola Marcus, first of all Feliz cumpleaños, thank you so much for your good, easy going course in Spanish . I am 74 years old I have been trying to learn Spanish for the last seven years from different courses and I built quite good amount of vocabulary but could not master the right way to use them , but now with your good method I am happy to say that it’s working nicely! We spend two to three months every year in south of Spain, so I am going to practice my new knowledge soon, as I have just joined the bola de Nieve coarse , thank you , Haidar Madi
Marcus, seems we have many things in common. We share not only the same birth date, but also the same birth year as I will also be 50 on the 26th. we both married una mujer bonita Mexicana. I live where you use to in Tijuana the last 5 years.
If you are ever back in TJ please look me up would love to meet you!
Feliz cumpleaños!
My dear Marcus
Thank you for making the Spanish lessons so easy to follow and very interesting by starting with some news first. My husband and I went to Seville two years ago and last year to Madrid. Your language sounds like water flowing in a pond full of orchids and we decided to learn it. My friends also visited Madrid and I am passing over to them the Spanish lessons that you email to me.Well done!
Feliz cumpliaños!
Dolly
Gracias Marcus.
I don’t normally participate in reply’s….
BUT…..
I am a young lady of coming up to 60 years of age …fighting Cancer in two parts of my body and MUST say that video of the 69 year old chap’s flexibility has inspired me and motivated me into my Spanish.
A big THANK YOU …
This guy truely does inspire me’.
Hello, I’m in my 80’s and I am taking Spanish from a native speaker. Unfortunately, I can’t afford your Spanish class because I am retired on a fixed income, but I took it in high school and decided to go back and learn in my 70’s. I also do exercise, but nothing as strenuous as the 69 year old gentleman. My exercise is yoga and egoscue. I love it. Not so good at understanding, but my pronunciation is pretty good. I go to Aruba every year and practice my Spanish on the Arubians, poor things, they are so nice to try and understand me. P.S Felix Cumpleanos, Carolyn
Love your lessons! Did fair with my Spanish in Mexico for the last month.
Thought we might be twins when I first read this email but my birthday is the 24th and almost twice your age (88).Spent today swimming with manatees in Fla., SCUBA dived in Belize in Dec. and expect many more adventures. You have a long way to go! FELIZ CUMPLIANOS. Jane
Querido Marcus, First of all I wish you Many many returns of the day! Feliz cumpliaños!
Dios le bendiga muchos. I enjoy your Spanish class. I like your method very much. Though I attend “conversational class for the beginners” in a college, I like your method very much, but I haven’t purchased the cds. I am waiting for cds of my friend who has purchased it for him. I will make use of them aprender español.
Muchos gracias, Marcus.
Una vez, Feliz cumpliaños!
Fr. Mamachan
Very Happy Birthday.
Sincerely, Valerie Jones
Just back from Puerto Vallarta where I made it a point to speak a few words of Spanish to the graceful people of Mexico and I was surprised how much Synergy Spanish made me feel comfortable. Gracias amigo y feliz cumpleaños, Irene
Hi Marcus,
I love your lessons and you are so right. I am also one of the older ones and wish I had started earlier to learn Spanish. But I love it and thanks to you I am not worrying about the grammar which slowed me down previously. Keep it up. Thanks very much. Happy Birthday, you are a Pisces? like me.
Martha
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARCUS AND THANKS FOR ALL YOUR AUDIO LESSIONS. FELIZ CUMPLEANOS DE QUARANTE Y NEUVO ANOS!
Best wishes for a very happy 49th on Monday Marcus, keep up the good work!
Ann
I love the originality of your emails. I am 82 years young and am determined to master Spanish but have so many projects on hand, involving shuttling between France, Spain, UK and India, that it is difficult to organise the time for regular sessions, but I will get there.
Tony
Hola amigos,
It is true that if you eat well, exercise, start up new projects, try to keep stress out of your life, you will enjoy good health and have a more fulfilling life. I am a retired psychologist and professor and I have taken up, gardening, yoga and Spanish this year, I will be travelling this spring and as long as you keep going, I think you can find satisfaction in life and also find time to care for the younger generations. Getting older means more freedom, less stress, more time to do what you want to do and you don’t have to make that much money to appreciate what life can bring you. It’s all a question of attitude!
Take care and enjoy,
Louise
I think your method is d best , it allows me to remember better than any I have attempted. It is also fun , I need though to buckle down and commit to doing d course.Your r fantastic!
Fantastico! Thank you Marcus – you inspire
Well, I cannot stand on my head, but I’m still running around doing all my chores and love to travel, I’m off to the USA next week from SAfrica. I turned 86 on the 26 March.
Many happy returns to you too, Marcus!
I am an intermediate speaker, do you have a course for me?
