This is the third lesson in our Spanish Fluency Patterns series. It’s the approach to verbs from Bola de Nieve that gets you speaking fluent Spanish.
If you missed any of the previous lessons, here’s a link to the first one – Spanish Fluency Patterns 1.
And the second one showed you More Spanish Fluency Patterns.
To do this third lesson… this is all the theory you need to know
AR verbs change to AS to make the 2nd person informal, for example…
AR verb | 2nd person informal
Trabajar | To work | Trabajas | You work |
Pasar | To spend (time) | Pasas | You spend (time) |
Comprar | To buy | Compras | You buy |
Llegar | To arrive | Llegas | You arrive |
Cocinar | To cook | Cocinas | You cook |
Preparar | To prepare | Preparas | You prepare |
Ser o no ser – To be or not to be
One more thing, in Spanish to talk about someone’s characteristics the Spanish verb to be is ser, which has an irregular pattern like this
AR verb | 2nd person informal
ser | To be | eres | You are |
You’ll learn more by interacting with the audio than by analyzing Spanish verbs, so let’s get started right now, here’s your audio lesson.

to each his own…I find it helps me a great deal to take a short sentence using a phrase peculiar to Spanish which is foreign to English. Then I keep going over that one sentence using all tenses and moods. Example: I go to visit my friend. Voy a visitar A mi amigo. I went to visit my friend. I used to visit my friend. I will go to visit my friend. I have been, I had been, I might visit, I should visit, etc. Try it…it works for me.
Hi, many thanks for these great lessons, is the 4th part ready yet or have I missed it? Thanks for your time!!!
Marcus,
You are a great teacher! The Fluency Pattern lessons are good. Best of all they show me how much Spanish I have learned by using Synergy Spanish. I know most of the words, and I understand much of the structure of what was covered.
Right now I am reviewing Synergy Spanish lessons 20-5 (I finished the 25 lessons several months ago) to strengthen my grasp of the latter concepts. I am also working on phonics and the rhythm of speaking the language. I anticipate and hope that these strategies will help me improve my speaking, listening and remembering skills.
Thank you for developing Synergy Spanish programs. They make think I can … learn to speak Spanish.
Ruby
Great lessons! I’m really grateful to you for all that I have learned. I had 20 lessons in Castellano 40 years ago before going to work in Paraguay but when we arrived there discovered we must learn Guaraní. In those days Spanish was spoken only in Asunción and Concepción. After 3 years my wife and I were asked to begin a new work in Brasil, so we moved over to Portuguese. Muchas gracias. Stuart
