I was riding through a park in Australia recently and rode past three young hooligans getting drunk and acting obnoxiously.

One of them yelled, “here’s a guy on a bike, you look terrible!” Then another one slurred at me, “you’re an A-hole.”

How Charming!

Drinking isn’t allowed in the park, so I thought about confiscating their alcohol but I’m not that stupid. Instead, I rode off into the sunset as they continued to holler and carry on.

A few days later I read in the paper that a man was in a coma after being assaulted in the same park. It was a different day,
so it probably wasn’t the same group that I ran into but it did make me think.

Of the three louts who abused me, one of them looked particularly evil. If I had taken it further, what might have happened? You might not have tu amigo, Marcus, writing to you today.

Even though I have years of karate experience, It’s never been put to the test in the street. Everything I’ve done in karate has
been in the controlled environment of the dojo.

Since that event, I’ve wondered if after all the years I’ve spent in martial arts whether I could actually defend myself.

Have I taken the wrong approach?

Is there a better way?

These thoughts give me guilty feelings because my sensei, en paz descanse, (may he rest in peace) was my hero.

But it could be true. It’s possible I have spent years en vano(in vain).

I won’t know until it’s really tested on the streets but I hope it never is.

How do you know if the Spanish you are learning will work on the streets?

When I first started teaching language in Mexico, there were some lousy results. Those wasted years are what inspired me to discover the unique methods I use today.

So many people have spent years, even decades, trying to speak Spanish and can’t put into use what they learned. They can’t “defend themselves” in the Spanish language. Challenge yourself the way I am challenging myself with these questions.

Is the way you are approaching Spanish going to get you to your goal?

Are you getting there fast enough?

Will it work in the real world?

If you’re unsure if my methods will open the world of Spanish for you, here are three ways to be sure you make the best decision for you.

I may not be able to defend myself in a street fight but I’m positive I can get you speaking Spanish faster than any other method.

That’s why I have the strongest guarantee you’ll ever find for a Spanish program.
