Spain has dominated global sports for much of this century.
Their soccer teams have been among the world’s best. Rafael Nadal ruled tennis for decades. Now Carlos Alcaraz has taken the torch. And lately, UFC fighter Ilia Topuria has been taking the combat sports world by storm.
But what really caught my attention wasn’t just Topuria’s fighting — it was hearing him speak his third language English with excellence.
Just a few years ago, he spoke broken English.
Now? He’s articulate, confident, and doing major podcast interviews with ease.
What I admire most is his mindset.
He once said something that gave me chills:
“Most people see and then believe. I believe — and then I see.”
He talked about how he visualized everything he has now:
How he became the kind of man worthy of his wife.
How he didn’t just picture being a champion — but one of the GOATs (greatest of all time).
Another quote of his that I love:
“If others have done it, I can do it too.
And if no one’s done it, I’ll be the first.”
That’s the mindset of a champion.
No excuses. No waiting for perfect conditions.
Just a decision: This is happening.
And here’s the thing:
That mindset? It’s exactly what unlocks real Spanish fluency too.
But the best part is… you don’t have to be the first.
The path is already there.
So when people say:
• “I’m too old.”
• “I’m not good with languages.”
I think about:
• My 102-year-old student who still learns new phrases every week
• The students who moved to Spain and Latin America — and now thrive like locals
• The business executive who went from frozen to fluent and connects deeply with his team
They all had one thing in common:
They believed it was possible — and they acted.
So let me ask you:
What could you accomplish with your Spanish… if you thought like a champion?
