Session 5 – Spanish Beyond The Textbook
You’ve seen the textbooks with rules about por vs para, ser vs estar, indirect and direct object pronouns, the pluperfect and the subjunctive.
That’s academic Spanish, it can be intimating, confusing and overwhelming.
Instead I am here to help you speak conversational Spanish within the first ten minutes.
Native speakers put the language together in ways that communicate richly, freely and openly.
This is the everyday authentic conversational Spanish that goes way beyond the textbook.
Here is a quick example of the natural language.
Se me olvido.
Pull out a textbook and you’ll be hit with an explanation of reflexive verbs and indirect object pronouns.
Here’s a better way.
Let’s connect it to language you know and use it like this.
Se me olvido = it slipped my mind
It’s so much easier to grasp when you have a connection to daily used language.
Se mi olvido invitar a mi amigo a la fiesta.
It slipped my mind to invite my friend to the party.
Se mi olvido visitar a mi madre.
It slipped my mind to visit my mother.
Se me olvido comprar flores.
I forgot to buy flowers.
Se me olvido traer la llave del hotel.
It slipped my mind to bring the hotel key.
This written example may help you, but imagine Spanish like this flowing freely out of your mouth daily.
When I guide you to use this kind of Spanish and speak with it, soon you’ll be speaking Spanish with a new level of conversational confidence.
Now you are ready for back and forth conversations with all your new Spanish amigos.
