Can you remember these?

FB IU SAUF OU KUNIC EFNE WS

Close your eyes for 10 seconds and see how many you remember.

I’m guessing that you didn’t do too well.

Let’s take those same letters and present them differently.

Close your eyes for 10 seconds and see how many you remember.

How did you do?

Those were the same letters in the same sequence, yet I am sure you did much better the second time.

If you didn’t get them all correct, I’ll show you a memory trick that makes it even easier.

But first, let’s talk about why this matters and what it has to do with learning Spanish.

Look at these Spanish words about language. How many of them are familiar to you?

comprensible, lingüístico, lucido, sistemático, vivido, aparente, eficiente, pragmático, positivo, concreto, irónico, distinto, congruente, evidente, básico, presente, autentico, transparente, preciso, explicito, coherente, elocuente, exacto

Like the words above, there’s so much Spanish you already know.

Almost a third of English words have the same roots as Spanish words.

Hay conexiones entre inglés y español (vía latín) en casi todas las frases de español.
(There are connections between English and Spanish (via Latin) in almost every phrase of Spanish.)

In the same way the FB IUS A went from murky to crystal clear (FBI USA), so too can 30 to 40% of the Spanish language open up when it’s given to you in a way you can grab onto.

Most English words that end in ITY end in IDAD in Spanish. For example:

universidad university
hospitalidad hospitality
responsabilidad responsibility
oportunidad opportunity

!Qué gran oportunidad!

Most English words that end in IFY end in IFICAR in Spanish. For example:

identificar identify
significar signify
simplificar simplify
verificar verify

¡Es fantástico! Qué gran oportunidad para simplificar las cosas.

You can take full advantage of the English-Spanish conexión today. The Page below has even more ways to connect Spanish and English.
