Here are some comments from my students about learning Spanish from middle age up to 81 years of age.

“Don’t let anyone think age is any sort of a barrier to learning another language”

I would like to say that I have enjoyed your courses very much. Mi Spanish has improved enormously. Now I can visit my friends in Costa Rica, and feel much more confident in my conversations with them.

Eddie later added

I would also like to say that in a couple of weeks I shall be 74 years old…so don’t let anyone think age is any sort of a barrier to learning another language….especially with your unique method of teaching.

Many, many years ago I left grammar school with a GCE certificate “O” level in French, but I have never been able to hold a conversation in French; ….. as I now can in Spanish!!

“I feel as though my brain cells are suddenly increasing
which isn’t a bad thing at my age (64)”

My husband and I have a property ten minutes drive from Alicante City, and so we pay frequent visits to Spain throughout the year.

Because of your Synergy Spanish, I feel as though my brain cells are suddenly increasing, instead of decreasing, which isn’t a bad thing at my age (64).

Thank you very much for boosting my confidence to use Spanish, and for all the extra free lessons you give. Also, thank you to your wife Elena, who is obviously a massive help with pronunciation.

Penny later added

I am definitely had more confidence to use the language since learning Synergy Spanish, Whilst away. I was able to understand the Spanish people much easier when they spoke to me, and more importantly they understood me, and carried on speaking in their language, instead of switching over to English.

“I like your step by step approach building on previous lessons”

I’ve been studying Spanish for about 2 years now (I was 59 when I started), and very soon discovered your Shortcut to Spanish and Synergy courses, so of course I jumped at the chance to enroll on your Bola de Nieve! I like your step by step approach building on previous lessons and it’s very convenient on my MP3 player as I can dip into it at all sorts of odd times, but most of all I like the way you present the lessons sharing bits of your life with us.

“I’m 78. I hadn’t heard a word of Spanish until I turned 75”

I had been learning Spanish online for a year; I had even walked the Camino de Santiago for two months in Spain. My survival Spanish served me well and I could make myself understood, but I couldn’t TALK Spanish.

That’s when I discovered Synergy Spanish. It was a refreshing new window on learning. I worked my way through, I think, all the Synergy products and onto Bola de Nieve. I thank you for how you taught me to speak.

By the way, I’m 78. I hadn’t heard a word of Spanish until I turned 75. I could have, should have written this in Spanish. But it is, after all, our mutual idioma materna and I wanted to be sure that you understood just how happy I have been with all you have done for me.

“I have tried everything and no success, but with your course it’s wonderful”

I am 65 and living in Panama, I have tried everything and no success, but with your course it’s wonderful. Thanks and regards.

“I am 65 years young and I have learned more in a couple of months
from your course than I did in a year with a private teacher”

I am about half way through your Synergy Spanish course and I have been very impressed with the way the course is put together. I am 65 years young and I have learned more in a couple of months from your course than I did in a year with a private teacher.

The amount of material I received is well worth much more than what I paid for it. I cannot believe how many free lessons you give away and how great your support is. Anyone should be able to learn Spanish from your Synergy Spanish course.

You have put a lot of effort into this program and it really shows. Keep up the good work.

“I am six weeks shy of turning 69 years old, and I am going to be
pretty fluent in Spanish thanks to you!”

I took Spanish in my small home town in eastern New Mexico in 1957. (I really knew lots of playground talk, mostly cussing, and it all came easily con mi amigos). Then two years in the classroom left me tongue tied and nervous.

I am a retired college instructor (English) and I must admit that your program is superior. I downloaded it Sunday and today is Thursday. I have learned more in four days than in two years in high school and am excited and motivated. It is fascinating how some individuals, like you, are natural teachers. Keep it up.

I am six weeks shy of turning 69 years old, and I am going to be pretty fluent in Spanish thanks to you! I believe it this time!

“Hispanic people understand me”

I have tried so many different courses and the one that has worked best for me is your courses. I have been using your course for awhile and already I speak better Spanish than ever before!!

Hispanic people understand me and help me when necessary and are happy to help. I am a 65 year old professor, also wish I had not waited so long to learn, but it is progressing so well that I cannot express my appreciation enough for what you do.

“My conversations with people in markets in Ecuador and Bolivia are my fondest memories”

Finding Shortcut to Spanish and then your Synergy Spanish , Informal Spanish and the many free lessons you make available was a life saver – it is the most awesome way to learn a language.

I am 65 and last year I went to South America for 4 months travelling and volunteering.

After 8 weeks of a Spanish night class i.e. one class a week, where we only got few chances to speak I had learned just enough to order a beer and not much more I knew I needed to do much much more.

A brief search of the Internet turned up your course and with your try before you buy sample lessons I knew I had found a great gift.

The difference in your course to many others was that it started at a totally basic level which is just what I needed and you are so encouraging.

I liked the way you didn’t start with lots of grammar or verb endings which I had bumped into and my heart had sunk with the enormity of the task.

For me the repetition of the words with sufficient time to remember what I had to say was great i.e the audio – some other courses had too little time to marshall my brain and do the repetition.

I liked the range of the course – the audios were awesome – the repetition was great – the revision in each session was grand. I also liked the way you built the lessons up to three chord sentences. I enjoyed the flip cards and related easily to your little catch phrases and the work book was excellent.

In the days before my trip I was always plugged into my MP3 player doing the house work, travelling by bike or car listening and saying the words and phrases out loud.

When I went to South America I just used the Spanish I had learnt. People were really happy to help and I could make myself understood. I did lots of travelling on my own.

Some of my conversations with people in markets in Ecuador and Bolivia are my fondest memories.

People couldn’t believe that I had only learnt Spanish for thee months.

I really liked the encouraging emails that came from you almost weekly with funny interesting and useful information.

It is true that 138 common basic words give you a vast range of useful phrases. I so liked it that you have built a course that gave me the building blocks in a structured way of a new language. I have recommended your course to many people including our correspondence school .

I very much appreciate that you make the course available at a very affordable price and thus make a contribution to the world.

“I THINK IN SPANISH”

I just finished the Bola de Nieve!!

I loved it and definitely have learned how to speak spanish faster and better than i expected.
It is actually other people who comment on my improvements in a very genuine and very surprised way :)))

By the way, one thing which is happening to me is that since the last 5-6 lessons on the course my interest in studying went way high 🙂

While I always was interested and always enjoyed the lessons, the compound effect of the ability to speak and to assimilate the data towards the end of the course really excites me, and I want to keep studying more than ever .

So, in basically 6 month, with a slow start , and being 60 years old, I now have no problem having conversations with people far above the level of just ordering coffee. While I make many, many, many mistakes for sure, people actually have long and meaningful conversations with me – I love it :))))

The thing which I think is most remarkable and supper important is , that no matter how bad I speak – most of the time I do NOT translate from English to Spanish – I THINK IN SPANISH –

Personally I suppose I will start dreaming in spanish after this next course :)) Who knows ??

Thanks for such a great product.

“Our experience was due in large part to being able to communicate in Spanish”

My wife and I belong to Friendship Force International, which is an organization that sponsors home hosting. Late last year our club arranged to visit two clubs in Chiapas, Mexico (Tuxtla-Gutierrez and Comitan).

I thought that since Chiapas is so far south and off the tourist paths that I would enjoy the experience more if I knew a little Spanish when we stayed in our host’s homes. I went to the Internet and searched for courses. Yours caught my eye and I ordered your Synergy Spanish with the 14 Cd’s. I started my studies right after the first of the year, and we left for Chiapas March 12th.

!!Muchisimas Gracias!! I was able to communicate with our first family that spoke very little English. The Chiapas area is wonderful!! The people are great, the food was delicious, the drinks flowed freely, the music and dancing went on as long as you could stand. Those two weeks were the best vacation I can remember taking!

I could go on for several pages about our experience but it was due in large part to being able to communicate in Spanish. I am 69 years old, and if I can do it, anyone should be able to experience the thrill of speaking another language.

I particularly want to thank Elena for her work on the Cd’s. Her slow pace and clear pronuciation of every word made learning that much more achievable.

Keep up the good work and I will be ordering new courses as they become available.

“It is making a big difference to our confidence in talking to people
in our adopted country”

I have been very pleased with the progress I’ve made using Synergy Spanish. We are English ex-pats who moved to Spain, and have been trying to learn the language, seriously, for 4 years. However, in our 60’s learning a new language has been daunting. But we are making real progress now, thanks to your course.

Thanks for Synergy Spanish which really is making a big difference to our confidence in talking to people in our adopted country.

“We would do nada más que estudiar espanol if we didn’t have
anything else to do but duty calls even when retired!!!”

My husband just retired from 43 years of teaching high school in May and we decided to learn Spanish and have been studying your course for the past 6 weeks. We are just finishing leccion once (11) and are amazed how much we have learned already.

We are really enjoying taking your course together. We would do nada más que estudiar espanol if we didn’t have anything else to do but duty calls even when retired!!!

– Clair Weismiller (Tucson, AZ)

“I am 62 years old and didn’t think I would be able to learn a new language,
but it all came so easily”

I just completed the Synergy Course and loved it. I am 62 years old and didn’t think I would be able to learn a new language, but it all came so easily, thanks to you.

I am looking forward to more courses! What a great job you are doing! I have recommended your courses to several people from this area, and will continue to do so.

“I really believe that if I had not found you I might well have abandoned
the whole project of learning to speak Spanish”

Last summer my son, who lives in Mexico, married his sweetheart who is Mexican. Although she speaks excellent English I decided, in that moment, to learn to speak Spanish beyond the ‘Hello, where is the bathroom level?’

I looked around, even took a summer series of classes – but eventually found you on the Internet. Since then I have been working my way through your lessons, listening to each as many times as I need to before moving on to the next. I even took a break and then picked you up again without losing anything that I could detect – I merely backed-up a few lessons to get warmed up.

I just returned home from 8 days visiting with my son and daughter-in-law in Mexico. I thought it would be fun to create an ‘immersion course’ for myself and, therefore, spent a total of 10 hours with a private tutor – it was both fun and useful – but only because I had done all the work with your material!!

My teacher found me fascinating because I could actually speak much more, with better pronunciation, than she expected. We addressed issues of grammar only as they were useful to my progress in understanding.

By the way – I’m 68 years old and a retired physician – I had, and have, no wish to take any more formal lessons,or worse still, any more evaluation tests ( been there- done far more than my fair share!)

Thank you for all your work – I really believe that if I had not found you I might well have abandoned the whole project of learning to speak Spanish.

“Your way of teaching verbs is so good, as I can now make sentences”

I have been going to Spain for three months every year for about 20 years, last year, an emergency came up, and I couldn’t deal with it at all, so I decided to try and learn some Spanish, not before time , as I am 78.

I am most impressed with your system of teaching, your way of teaching verbs is so good, (as I can now make sentences). Your very enthusiastic pupil.

– Jane Noble (UK)

“I am 71 years old it has boosted my memory ability greatly,
both for learning Spanish and for everyday living”

Your approach is truly wonderful. I am 71 years old & thought my memory was starting to go. Your approach has boosted my memory ability greatly, both for learning Spanish and for everyday living.

“I have learned more from you in one month than all the rest in total”

I am 73, was raised on an orange grove with Mexican workers, have traveled a lot in Mexico, am now living in Puerto Vallarta.

I have taken Spanish in high school and college. I have learned more from you in one month than all the rest in total.

– Gary Graham (Puerta Vallata, Mexico)

“In a few weeks I shall be 80, but I intend to continue studying Spanish and taking trips to Spain”

In a few weeks I shall be 80, but I intend to continue studying Spanish and taking trips to Spain where I enjoy using the Spanish you have taught me.

“Comfortable & relaxed conversations with my Canarian friends,
even though I have reached the age of 81″

There is no doubt whatsoever in my mind your approach to teaching the Spanish language is way ahead of the three courses I have taken in the past, the result being a comfortable & relaxed conversation pattern with my Canarian friends no problem even though I have reached the age of 81, keep up the good work.

– Harry Bracewell (Canary Islands)

“It doesn’t matter how old you are, with your method, any one of any age
can learn a language”

This course is helping me enormously. Learning another language was something I had always wanted to do, and even though we moved to Spain, I still didn’t think I could at my age. But with your method it doesn’t matter how old you are, any one of any age can learn a language.

I love how it makes Spanish so much easier to learn, I can at last go out with confidence and speak to my neighbours in Spain. Thank you.

– Sandra Mitchell (UK)

“I expected that in middle age it would either be a losing battle
or a difficult struggle”

Your Synergy Spanish lessons are brilliant! I run a (nature) conservation organization and a lot of our work is in Latin America. I have been procrastinating Spanish lessons for years as I expected that in middle age it would either be a losing battle or a difficult struggle.

Instead, with your lessons, it has been fun!! Your lessons are perfectly paced, with new words introduced at just the right rate and repeated in later lessons to solidify them. Somehow your classes are very motivating and enjoyable. I guess it’s partly learning words in the context of sentences, which really builds confidence, and the way you structure the lessons. I expected I’d have to “make myself” listen to the lessons; instead I find I’m rewarding myself with them after getting work done at my office.
