English is strange!
Spanish makes more sense.
In English, noses run and feet smell.
Shouldn’t the feet do the running?
And the noses do the smelling?
In “inglés” (English) we also “throw” fiestas (parties).
And when we have a birthday, we “turn” years.
“I’m going to ‘throw’ a party because I am ‘turning’ 50.”
In Spanish you can’t “throw” a party. You can “throw” a streamer at the fiesta (party), but you can’t throw the fiesta.
And in Spanish you don’t “turn” 50 either.
(Sometimes I’d like to “turn around” from 50 back to 49, but it can’t be done.)
This audio tells you how you “turn” a certain age in Spanish (53 in my case) and celebrate it by “throwing” una fiesta.
You’ll speak in flowing sentences that can start a Spanish conversation about your party for your next birthday.
The speak-to-learn system on the audio will have you using authentic real-world Spanish about throwing parties.
Plus, you’ll be able to tell people how old you are “turning” on your next birthday
.

Gracias por sus lecciones. Me gustan mucho.
Cincuenta OLES!! por cincuenta años, Marcus!!
Gracias por todo!!
Paciencia
Dear Marcus,
Excellent as usual. You are a born teacher! Fifty not out – may you have a long innings!
Dear Marcus,
You are a brilliant born teacher! Muchas Gracias y felix cumpleano. Cincuenta “not out”. May you have a long innings!
With my prayer and good wishes!
Being hard of hearing, it took me a bit of time to let my ears get used to the different accent of the Spanish speaker, whereas I have no difficulty in understanding Marcus’s English. I still haven’t sorted ‘soon’ in Spanish. But the concept of learning through hearing in doing is what language learning should be all about, including learning to express tenses.
This lesson was excellent and I look forward to many more!
Thank you for helping me to speak in sentences. Now I can think in Spanish to practice when I do not have a Spanish persona to talk with.
I find it easier to learn Spanish if it is presented in context and I can see the words as they are being pronounced. Thanks to the way that Marcus presented this lesson I can now say something about my upcoming birthday.
Pronto voy a cumplir setenta y ocho años.
Felicidades!
….and have a happy Birthday !!
Enjoying your lessons
This is just perfect. I am going to be 88 and, this conversation is just the thing to know and speak with my Spanish speaking friends.

Lynn.

May you live a long and happy life with your loved ones.
Would love to learn more!
Thank you for sending these audios to me because I was wondering if the way we say things in English is different than Spanish such as you mention “noses run and feet smell”. I was really laughing at that. I can imagine how crazy that sounds to them. For that reason I was afraid to look up sentences on a translator and try to speak in Spanish what I wanted to communicate to my Spanish friends. Thanks!
Thank you so much; I really appreciate your emails muchas gracias
Muchas gracias, Marcus. Como siempre estoy encantada aprender con su ayuda.

Gracias por la leccione sobre el cumpleaños. Vivo en Mexico y puedo hablar mas y mas español, pero tengo problemas con intiendo. Me gusto mucho estas leciones.
Hi, I havenot yet started to learn because I am laze and probably also too stupid to learn Spanish. Your method though seems to be very interesting. Where shall I start with (from zero) to be able to get some Spanish inside this thick head of mine? Maybe too old to learn?
Best regards
Kjell 69 years old
fromSweden
You can learn at any age. My oldest student so far was 96. So at 69 you are but a spring chicken. I would recommend starting with Synergy Spanish it’ll show you that you really can speak Spanish.

This exercise about throwing a party and birthdays was fun. I already knew
how to say my age or someone else’s age but was not aware of how to say throw a party
in Spanish or how to say turning a certain age. Learning some of the more descriptive ways of saying something in a language helps to make you sound not so stilted when speaking, and more
like a fluent speaker.
Hola, I love your way of learning spanish. It makes it seems very easy
