I received this disturbing email recently; here’s a portion of it.

———————————————————————–
“Was just about to order your product when I noticed that one of your ‘personal testimonials,’ from a Jamie Roberts, was identical (even the same picture!) to that given by another course, Rocket Languages.

“Really?”
———————————————————————–

That email did send us into a panic here at Synergy Spanish. Is someone copying our testimonials?

So, I did some investigation.

First I checked out the competitor’s website and their testimonials. The email was correct; we have the exact same picture from one of the testimonials.

But the text is totally different.

On theirs she says,

“Rocket Spanish has helped me as a teacher to communicate with students and parents and they really appreciate it…”

On ours Jamie says,

“Dear Sr. Santamaria, I am just on the third CD of Synergy Spanish, but it’s made an enormous difference in my ability to communicate to the parents of my students, many of whom don’t speak English. Your teaching methods are extraordinarily effective, and I’ve tried many of them.”

Obviously Rocket Spanish was effective for her and our teaching methods were extraordinarily effective.

Good for Jamie – she wanted to go the extra mile for her students, so she bought several Spanish courses and liked more than one.

Beside Spanish I love guitars. I have at least forty books about playing guitars and music sitting on my shelf right now. When you love a subject you don’t just buy one book about it; you dig in with passion.

Then I dug a little deeper.

Turns out the person who wrote to me isn’t even on my mailing list. He hasn’t received all the sample lessons you have received. He wouldn’t be so cynical if he had actually tried out the system with all the free sample lessons we make available.

Here are all the sample lessons again just in case you missed any.

So what should I do in this age of skepticism?

Should I take down the testimonial?

I really don’t care about missing out on a sale. The real shame is for Tomás el Incrédulo (doubting Thomas). He missed out on so much more.

He could have been on his way to speaking Spanish by now.

Qué lástima por él. (What a shame for him.)

We’ll write to him and let him know about the free lessons (link) and then it’ll be up to him.

Here are your free lessons again.

Here’s a page with all my testimonials.

And don’t worry, I don’t believe Rocket Spanish is stealing our testimonials either.
